Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell continues to get verbally beaten by Democrats over his refusal to deal with reparations to the descendants of slaves in America.
“I don’t think reparations for something that happened 150 years ago, for whom none of us currently living are responsible, is a good idea,” McConnell said.
But naturally, this is not good enough for the Dems. They still insist that it’s only fair that America pay for its “original sin.”
Well, I have a proposal for all those leftists who cling to the hope of reparations. Rather than just concentrate on slave owners and such, let us expand the payment responsibility.
It is said that you can’t choose your family. Therefore, by extension, you also can’t choose your ancestors. On the other hand, other than family members, past and present, we choose to deal with everyone else in our lives on a regular basis.
Our ancestors were who they were. They did what they did, and we can never change that. In other words, it’s hardly fair to condemn or hold us responsible for slave-owning ancestors we can’t do anything about. It’s not fair to hold us, or our parents, our grandparents and their parents responsible for a family member or members who owned slaves at some point.
However, virtually everything else in life is a choice. Where we live, who we befriend, where we work and for whom, our spouse. And of course, for whom we vote.
Unlike the family we were born into, who we vote for and, again by extension, who our ancestors voted for is and was an extremely important and at times quite an impassioned “choice.”
