Okay – let’s see if I’ve got this straight. A black woman, an American citizen, appears to believe that Old Glory, the American flag, is synonymous with one thing – whiteness. And of course we know what “whiteness” means – racism, naturally.

This = Whiteness?

Now let’s just say, for argument sake, that Mara Gay, the aforementioned black woman, grew up in the projects, felt oppressed by the system and knew nothing but despair her entire life. Maybe, just maybe, I can see how she may feel this way. But this isn’t Mara Gay.

Mara Gay is currently on the editorial board of the New York Times. She has a college degree in political science from the University of Michigan and prior to joining the Times, she worked for NewsCorp, the Atlantic and the Wall Street Journal. In other words, she is quite an accomplished leftist.

Yet still, with everything she (am I allowed to call her that – she?) has accomplished thus far in the United States, which by the way she could accomplish in practically no other country, she still finds the American flag disturbing.

Mara Gay Says It’s ‘Disturbing’ To See American Flags In America, Blames White Trump Supporters

The New York Times’ Mara Gay said Tuesday that it was “disturbing” to see “dozens of American flags” on display in Long Island, New York.

Gay joined MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” to discuss the possibility of a Jan. 6 commission that would dig into the events and intelligence leading up to the riot on Capitol Hill, and she argued that the American flag was being flown by former President Donald Trump’s supporters who could not separate their vision of America from “whiteness.”

Gay began by saying that she believed Democrats should go ahead and form a commission without Republican support, arguing that was the only way to begin to get Trump’s influence out of American politics.

“The reality is here that we have a large percentage of the American population — I don’t know how big it is, but we have tens of millions of Trump voters who continue to believe that their rights as citizens are under threat by simple virtue of having to share the democracy with others,” Gay continued, arguing that Trump’s supporters viewed “Americanness” and “whiteness” as one and the same.
