It seems whenever the Founding Fathers are discussed, that discussion invariable degrades into one of race and racism. Why should we look to old dead white guys for guidance? Heck, even the Constitution as originally written was racist. And those who make these claims point to the 3/5ths clause pertaining to the counting of slaves.
But the Clause in Article I, Section 2 of the Constitution is misunderstood by almost all today. Professor Carol Swain explains that the three-fifths clause was inserted by anti-slavery advocates to advantage the abolitionists.
